Two relatives of fallen Ruhama MP want to replace him

Ten people have expressed interest in the Ruhama County parliamentary seat that fell vacant after the death of William Beijukye Zinkurateire, on Novermber 3.
The MP succumbed to Hepatitis B, a viral infection at Nsambya Hospital. Section 4 (c) of the Parliamentary Elections of 2001 election Act requires the Electoral Commission (EC) to organize a by-elections within sixty days upon the death of an MP.
Although the EC is yet to announce the date for the Ruhama County MP by-election, at least ten people are warming up for the seat.
They include among others the deceased's wife, Ms Allen Beijukye; his brother Mr Johnson Rumanywa Zinkuratiire, Ms Santurina Namanya Kachene, the manager Boona FM in Rukungiri and Dr. Bazinzi Natamba.
Others are Mr Yonah Musinguzi Bikwatsizehi, the former Ntungamo Municipality MP, Mr Moses Kahima, Mr Adens Rutaro Ntare and Mr Kenneth Kagundu, a member of the Forum for Democratic Change party.
The seat has also attracted Eng Jackson Mubangizi Kabikire, Mr Ashel Mupenzi, the Rweikiniro Sub County councillor, Ms Brenda Ankunda Mutetsi, Mr Muheebwa Anold Kongo, Dr Bazinzi Natamba, Mr Boora Erick Musafiri, Mr January Bamanzi Zibaagwe and Mr Phillip Mpamire Rwakikambuzi.
On Saturday, the Ruhama County NRM Party chairman, Mr Joseph Musaka convened a meeting with members of the deceased's family to select and endorse a candidate who would replace the legislator and implement his programmes.
They were shocked to hear that Mr Zinkuratiire had already announced himself on social media that he is the preferred successor of his brother.
