Kampala- The Uganda Law Society (ULS) had by yesterday failed to file its response to a suit in which the Attorney General is seeking court orders quashing a two-year suspension imposed on him by the lawyers’ body for alleged incompetence.
The case against Mr Peter Nyombi had been scheduled for its maiden hearing yesterday before Judge Stephen Musota of the High Court.
This was after court heard that ULS had not yet filed its response and that the mandatory 56 days in which they are supposed to file in their response were running out.
“We served the respondents the notice of motion on September 24 but they have not put in their affidavit yet,” Mr Joseph Masiko, the AG’s lawyer, said.
Mr Mohammed Mbabazi, who represented ULS, pleaded with court to grant him two more days to enable him file the response.
Mr Mbabazi told court that he received instructions from the law society on Friday to represent them hence this delay.
Court ordered ULS to file its response by Friday, fixing December 9 as the date to hear the matter.
