UN doctor found dead in bathroom

Kevin Florence Tsatsiyo

Kampala. The sudden death of a senior medical doctor who has been heading the medical department of the United Nations office for coordination of humanitarian assistance has left both the agency staff and the relatives shaken.
Dr Kevin Florence Tsatsiyo, according to her younger sister Juliet Balikoowa, was found dead in her bathroom in Akright Estate, Kirinya Bweyogerere, a city suburb, on Saturday morning.
While narrating the deceased’s last minutes to mourners yesterday at Our Lady of Africa Church, Mbuya, Ms Balikoowa said she accompanied her sister to hospital last Thursday after she had complained of stomach upset. The doctors, however, said they had not detected anything that required medical attention.

The doctor’s last hours
She added that she spent last Friday afternoon with the deceased at her house in Kirinya until around 7pm.
“The maid called me on Saturday morning, telling me Kevin was stiff in the bathroom and when we got a vehicle to take her to hospital, the doctors told us that she had already passed on,” she told the mourners.
According to Ms Neimah Warsame, the UN-OCHA Country Representative, Tsatsiyo has been looking after an estimated 400,000 refugees in different parts of the country.
“She was a senior national officer working as the national adviser on health, nutrition and food security at the UN office in Uganda and whenever I wanted to consult on anything to deal with refugees, she is the person I approached,” Ms Warsame told mourners.
Tsatsiyo, 46, had spent 16 years working with refugees. Her body will be taken to Metu village, Moyo District today and she will be laid to rest tomorrow.
