Police in Mukono are investigating the brutal killing of a Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) staff that occurred on Thursday.

John Peter Ngarambo, 41, an inspector in the imports department stationed at Liberty Inland Car Deport (ICD) in Kampala, was reportedly attacked at around 3am while asleep and bludgeoned using pavers got from the compound of the home he had just moved into hardly a week earlier.
“His assailants scaled his perimeter wall using one of the (tallest) ladders they found outside his site and landed in his bedroom on the second floor,” a caretaker who declined to be named said.

He added: “They awoke him from his sleep, demanded for money which he handed over while pleading for his life. After, they repeatedly beat him on the head with the pavers until they were sure he was dead.”
His wife, Joy, who had just given birth last Saturday and was discharged on Tuesday, was reportedly kicked and left for dead. She is however alive.

The assailants then fled with their heist that reportedly included Shs7m, a laptop and mobile phones. The deceased died in transit to Angelina Medical Centre.

Mukono DPC, Rogers Sseguya and his team arrived at the scene and spent the better part of Thursday morning processing the area for any clues before taking three suspects – all builders at the deceased's site – into custody.
CCTV footage obtained from Ngarambo’s home allegedly shows the suspects talking to some people during the day who are believed to have returned at night.

The same footage, according to an anonymous police source, shows three men donning disguises from head to toe, prowling outside the residence shortly before the crime reportedly took place.
“We have arrested two suspects to ascertain whether they were directly or indirectly involved and we shall let you know. What we so far also know is that the deceased was attacked by three people,” Kampala metropolitan police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigire said.

“CCTV footage obtained from the residence will be taken to our forensic experts to identify their faces. Shs7m was stolen,” he added.
The deceased, survived by his wife and three children, will be laid to rest on Saturday in Ngora.
