GULU- Gulu Magistrate’s Court yesterday adjourned the treason case against Uganda Peoples’ Congress deputy national mobiliser Dan Oola Odiya and two others, Mr Kenneth Otto and Sam Oboma.

The trio was on June 15 charged with five counts, including treason, concealment of treason, two counts of murder and attempted murder.

They appeared before Gulu Grade One magistrate Paul Owino yesterday for mention of their case. The state asked court to adjourn the case because the investigations were ongoing.
State prosecutor Paul Wepondi asked for more time to complete investigations.

Magistrate Owino adjourned the case to July 13 for further mention. He further remanded the trio to Gulu Central Prison.

Mr Odiya and the co-accused are accused of masterminding the May 27 attack on Opit army detachment at Lakwana Sub-county in Omoro County and another on Gulu Central Police Station on June 12. The attack on Opit detachment claimed lives of a soldier and a five-year old boy while eight guns were looted. The Gulu police station attack left one soldier and one police officer dead and several others injured.

UPC unhappy
The UPC outgoing party president, Mr Olara Otunnu, castigated the state for placing treason charges against Odiya and the co-accused without proper investigations.

While addressing journalists at Northern Uganda Media Club on Wednesday, Mr Otunnu noted that Odiya was being denied justice.

“We are demanding a faster hearing of Odiya’s case and consequential judgment delivered,” Mr Otunnu said.
