LUWEERO-Police and officials of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in Luweero District have arrested a UPDF officer who was impersonating an aide of Gen Salim Saleh to force weighbridge staff to released impounded trucks.
Gen Saleh is President Yoweri Museveni’s brother.
Capt. Ali Idagiri who claims to be attached to State House but working under Gen Saleh’ office is under police custody at Luweero Central Police Station.
He was detained after failing to convince the weighbridge staff that Gen Saleh had directed him to ensure that two trucks that had been intercepted for overloading are released by UNRA staff.

UNRA’s head of enforcement, Mr John Bosco Ssejemba on Tuesday said the staff at the weighbridge did not yield to Cap Idagiri’s claims that the impounded trucks were transporting “government secrets” in form of cargo which was the basis for Gen Saleh directives to have UNRA release them.

“We do not impound trucks because of their content but overloading. The statements made by the suspect who pretended to be acting on behalf of Gen Saleh prompted our staff to engage the police,” Ssejemba told journalists at Luweero Central Police Station.

Luweero District Police Commander Mr Paul Wataka said Capt. Idagiri faces charges of impersonation and conspiring to commit a felony once investigations are complete.
He said the drivers of the two trucks registration No. UAW 593 H and UAX 230 Q that were impounded would be fined and the excess load removed.
