Kampala.
Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura and his South Sudanese counterpart, Gen Pieng Deng Kuol, have held a meeting in a bid to resolve tensions over the border dispute in Moyo District.

The duo met on Monday at the district board room to lay out strategies in order to bring an end to attacks between Moyo residents and those from Kajo-Keji County in South Sudan.
Gen Kayihura underscored the importance of protecting people’s lives in the border area and vowed to deploy security operatives.

“I am directing the immediate deployment of security personnel along the border to restore calm,” he said.
The South Sudanese police chief on his part said the two countries will work together to ensure there are no more clashes in the area.

Gen Pieng said although people have lost lives, property and others have been displaced, security operatives on the ground will advise local leaders on how to make peace prevail. “We have handled many situations before and managed to bring peace, so why can’t we put this to end immediately?” he said.
He also condemned the recent arrest, torture and detention of the Moyo District chairperson and his team who had gone to monitor the census in the disputed Wano village, Moyo Sub-county.

The resolutions
