Uganda Federal Alliance plots to topple Kamya

Minister Beti Kamya (L) and UFA president Peter Mayeku

Kampala- The Minister for Kampala, Ms Beti Kamya’s party, the Uganda Federal Alliance Party (UFA), has started a process of toppling her from the party’s top most position.
Ms Kamya is the president of UFA party.

Mr Peter Mayeku, the UFA national chairman, said his members have been irritated by Ms Kamya’s statements such as lifting the presidential age limit and “praising dictatorship,” which deviate from the party principles and ideology.
“Uganda Federal Alliance dissociates from the personal statement(s) of the party president on her approval of the removal of Article 102(b) of the Constitution,” Mr Mayeku’s statement reads in part. Ms Kamya is one of the founders of UFA Party.
The party advocates establishing a federal system of governance and reducing the powers of the president.

Since Ms Kamya was appointed a Cabinet minister in the NRM government, she has abandoned her earlier stand.
She is now in favour of lifting the 75-year presidential age limit to allow President Museveni, who will have clocked 76 by 2021, to stand again.
Mr Mayeku said the party has called a national council meeting next month to deliberate on Ms Kamya’s conduct and statements.
Efforts to get a comment from Ms Kamya were futile as she is said to be out of the country.
