Uwera Nsenga found guilty of murdering her husband
Ms Jacqueline Uwera Nsenga, the woman accused of knocking dead her husband and city businessman, Juvenale Nsenga early last year has been found guilty of murder.
Justice Duncan Gaswaga on Monday morning ruled that Ms Nsenga could not have knocked her husband accidentally.
“I am satisfied that the prosecution has proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The accused is guilty and convicted as charged,” he said.
Subsequently, senior principal state attorney Susan Okalany prayed for the maximum sentence of death “to send a strong message against domestic violence.”
“The children are better off without her,” She said.
Defence lawyer Nsubuga Mubiru is set to make his submission on the conviction and sentence tomorrow (Tuesday) at midday.
In his ruling, Justice Gaswaga said the state’s witnesses were, “credible, truthful, reliable and knew the family well.” He said the defence argument that they were motivated by an ongoing family property contest could not hold as the family was not the one prosecuting her but rather the government of Uganda through the DPP. Nsenga’s lawyers have vowed to appeal the conviction.
Uwera had been accused of murdering her husband by running over him with a car at their residence in Bugolobi, Kampala, in January 2013.
