Uganda Cranes made the Africa Cup of Nations grade for the first since 1978 following a 1-0 over Comoros at Namboole Stadium on Sunday evening.

Farouk Miya scored the all-important goal on 34 minutes, sending the over 40,000 Ugandan fans at the stadium into wild celebrations.

Cranes were by far the better side, creating more chances in the second half but couldn’t double their lead. Nonetheless, coach Micho Sredejovic’s side did enough to get the desired result, finishing second in Group D on 13 points. Burkina Faso, who defeated Botswana 2-1, topped the group with the same number of points but had a better head-to-head record. Cranes qualified for the tournament due next year in Gabon as the best group runners-up.
