Herbert Zziwa, a journalist with NTV is being detained at Arua Central Police Station following the chaos and gun fire that rocked Arua town on Monday evening.

The trouble started after different candidates were marching to their respective offices with supporters after campaign rallies ahead of Wednesday by-election to choose Arua Municipality Member of Parliament. Suddenly, supporters of opposition-leaning Kassiano Wadri were fire, forcing them to scatter.

It was during the scuffle that a driver to Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine was shot dead.

Mr Zziwa was reporting live about the shooting at the scene of the crime when more gun fire erupted. Zziwa suddenly went silent and the screen blacked out.

He was reported missing till today morning when it was announced that he, together with another correspondent, Ronald Muwanga, is currently being detained.

His colleagues have reported that his mobile phone number is currently being used by unknown people to call other journalists.

It is not yet clear on what grounds he is being detained.

NTV management is engaging the authorities to have them released.
