We cannot pull down Museveni posters- Police

Police have said they cannot pull down president Museveni's posters because he is immune.

Police spokesperson Mr Fred Enanga made the remarks while responding to a question as to why the police was defacing posters of former premier John Patrick Amama Mbabazi over engaging in early campaigns but left posters of Museveni hanging in different areas.

“The president is the fountain of honour and he enjoys absolute immunity for whatever actions and enjoys structural advantages. You cannot just pull down his pictures under whatever circumstances," Mr Enanga said.

“But even then, he has not come out to make such pronouncement (that he will run in the 2016 presidential elections),” he added.

Police on Monday arrested and detained several mobilisers of Amaama Mbabazi across the country over allegedly planning a demonstration and among others carrying Mr Mbabazi’s posters, T-shirts, caps and stickers.

In Mbarara town for instance, the suspects are said to have pinned Mr Mbabazi’s posters at some places on Sunday night but these were all removed by police in the wee hours of the morning.

This comes in the wake of Mr Mbabazi’s declaration to contest for presidency in the 2016 elections.
