Masaka. Wives of soldiers at the Armoured Brigade Barracks, Kasijjagirwa-Masaka, have accused coordinators of Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) of sidelining them when distributing seedlings and other farm implements to farmers.
They claim that whereas they shoulder family responsibilities when their husbands are away on duty, they are not considered in government projects intended to help citizens fight poverty.
“Even OWC, managed by soldiers whom we believe know our situation, has not benefited us,” Ms Judith Tushabe, chairperson of the soldiers’ wives at the barracks, said.

This was during the belated Women’s Day celebrations organised by the Armoured Brigade unit on Monday.
The wives of soldiers also wondered why they are not rewarded for maintaining their marriages when their husbands go for operations yet it is their confidence that gives the combatants courage to execute their duties effectively.
Ms Mariam Nalubega, the Lwengo deputy Resident District Commissioner, who presided over the function, urged wives of soldiers to remain loyal to their husbands.
She promised to lobby for them so that they benefit from all government programmes.
OWC was introduced by President Museveni in 2013 to transform the lives of Ugandans through improving household incomes.
