  • Moses Francis Omar said: "The fact is that if his Excellency had removed IGP and leaving the other behind them that one would kill another. He has got a lot of wisdom."

The news about the sacking of Gen Kale Kayihura and Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde as IGP and security minister respectively, was received different by online readers.

Most took to social media to criticise President Museveni’s action while others applauded him saying it was foreseen and long overdue.

Mr Museveni dropped Gen Kayihura and replaced him with Martin Okoth Ochola who has been serving as his deputy. Former Military Police Commander Brig Sabiiti Muzeei is the new deputy IGP.
Museveni also sacked Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde as the Security Minister and replaced him with Gen Elly Tumwine.

Daily Monitor has since started an opinion poll to get to know what Ugandans are thinking about the sacking and whether they think the changes will help combat crime in Uganda.
Some Ugandans have expressed sympathy for the two army generals saying perhaps they have been doing whatever they could to fight crime despite other challenges like lack of enough resources, among other factors beyond their control.

Other Ugandans however say the changes were necessary, considering the rate at which crime in Uganda was growing, and the fact that the two generals were reportedly fighting each other instead of sitting at the round table to resolve how to go about the deteriorating security situation in the country.
Below are some of thereactions in general;

How police officers received news of Gen Kayihura's sacking

One officer said "At least now our colleagues will think twice before selling their hearts out to politicians"

Mugisha Muntu‏ @mugishamuntu: No matter your station in life, we must always remember we are part of the community. Power and positions are temporary, but our actions while holding them are not. Act wisely and put #CountryAboveSelf

Tumushabe David: To me these two respected senior citizens are not fit for such sensitive positions, very old & tired. It would be good to a point young ,fresh energetic people with high moral & determination to serve their country.

James Ameda: The whole regime needs an overhaul. In the late 90s, during that time when crime ran Kampala. The president appointed a one Mayanja to command an operation Wembuley here in Kampala. Whispers in the security circle as to why the president appointed this man was that 'Mayanja knows these things of thieves.' I admire the president’s way of doing things, he should also fire Wenger so that we rest.

Alex Bahati: No, the change was not made for the sake of fighting crime. If it was the reason, Tumukunde who was becoming more practically efficient in doing so wouldn't have been removed. The hatman has his own reason of making the changes other than fighting crime.
Mukula George Frank: The problems in police are more bigger than okoth and muzeei and it needs a lot of time to fixe them which time even the president does not hv,i don't expect anything much from the changes made
Annex Anatoli: M7 is the problem

Isaac Mwambu: If its true that kale is dropped, lets be honest enough to him and congratulate him upon his dedication to his duties. Remember that he has done his service under difficult situations. We may blame him for what we were not happy with during his tenure but may it called for such responses.Congratulations Kale

Kajubi Christopher: You can never curb a disease before knowing the cause, that was simply removing one leaf from a tree thinking that it will dry never,we need to cut the all tree down thanks.
Dricile Gideon: It will work, but only if those appointed are God fearing people and if they have love for people whom they serve.

Julius Musoke Kibirige: Tumukunde deserve a medal for un masking kayihura &his colleague
Aine Crescent: He has been part of the problem but alot needed to be uprooted from government
Hiire Ronald Matenyu: Let me hope the northern guy will not be used as a tee pee
Simon Carl: on my side Gen.Tumukunde was making a clean up
Namataka Babra: Tumukunde was doing the right thing they shouldnt have reshufled him

Paul Kyesswa: Talk what u want, all these are games, these guys they c very far,n plan, they know the weakness of the citizens, they know what's gona make them happy n excited n forget the big painful past so that in the next near feature something big is passed unrecognized still in their favour.

Keith Mugadya: There is still a gap in skills. The post of igp needs to be held by a person with police training and qualifications, not just placing a soldier in the role. The training and skillset for the two professions greatly differ. That was the root cause of Kayihura's dismal performance. Good luck. If this new one wants to do any better, he had better go for crash courses and maybe get some consultants from our neighbours in the East, who seem to have maintained professional standards in their police force.
Mark Calvin Malvins: Yes kayihura thought police was his bt i hate things of uganda because the simmilarity is the difference!

Dickens Okello: KK Absent From Police Will Never Help M7 & Ugandans In Anyway, What Ugandans Need Is Just More Than What M7 Has Done, Firing Kk From Police It's Like Jumping From A Frying Pan To Fire, We Are Watching The Future.

Kim Wiz Benson: Hehehhh it hurts when you already ironed your Uniform ready to go for work on monday and you hear the news that you have been fired.
Potential Love Philex: Hahaha finally your out God answering our prays let me hope you do not #FDC hahaha i cant stop laughing www. Kayihura.com
Felix Lutaya: I personally know tumukunde right from where he stayed in bunga,he is an honest and calm man, museveni fired him because he praised besigye....

Bukirwa Shamim: Tumukunde job well done, salute u had no political intentions go and age well wama salute.
Clever Mulowoza: M7's fortress is only in the military. He has appointed Ochola n deputised him with SFC's cum MP's Muzeeyi. It's not rocket science that Mzeeyi is the real IGP and poor Ochola is to serve as a puppet. Police is going to be more ruthless than ever before. Brace yourselves poor Ugandans!

Tumusiime S Rahim: I SALUTE GEN.TUMUKUNDE as the champion in this game,he created a situation to unmask the rotten Kayihura.Gen museven has always wanted to remove kale but Kale has been giving excuse as on how he had successfully managed the opposition but failed on others then Museven had to bring in Tumukunde because Tumu and Kale were unlike poles they had to fight each other in the process of unmasking kale. And the master's trick when you fight each other he remove you all. Gen Tumu the champion job well done mission accomplished.

Kambugu Gerald: Personally, I wouldn't be surprised neither happy for the reshuffle, and am not excited at all.
We are still under the same government and still the same acts which I don't think they will change.
Students and pupils are still failing and still poor healthy conditions and more so poor economy.
So I will put a smile for only a fundamental change, period.
Moses Francis Omar: The fact is that if his Excellency had removed IGP and leaving the other behind them that one would kill another. He has got a lot of wisdom. Now let the two fight without guns and we see who is who
