Background. The seat was vacated by Dr Elioda Tumwesigye who recently won the municipality seat.

Three people have been nominated to contest for the Sheema North parliamentary seat ahead of the October 8 election.
On Tuesday, Ms Naome Kibaaju was nominated on the NRM ticket while Mr Guma Nuwagaba was nominated on the FDC ticket after defecting from NRM. Mr Felix Mujuni was okayed to contest as an Independent.

The district returning officer, Ms Deborah Asiimwe, said they were expecting six people but the rest did not show up.
Mr Brian Amanya, who arrived three minutes to 5pm, the closing time for nomination, did not have all the requirements and was not nominated.

Mr Nuwagaba, who is the former Mitooma RDC, defected to FDC, having contested for the NRM flag and lost to Ms Kibaaju on September 13.
“In the NRM primaries, my supporters were beaten and I was detained on the eve of the election. I decided to have (another) belonging and the party that has welcomed me is FDC,” he said.
