Police on Sunday arrested the wife of Dereck Coggon, a former UN peacekeeper and proprietor of 4-Turkeys, a popular bar in Entebbe who was shot at the gate of his home in Entebbe on Saturday. Coggon, who managed to drive to St. Mary’s Clinic for help, died moments later after arrival at the clinic.
Fina Masika Indol was arrested at Namasuba, a Kampala suburb, with a suspected prostitute the deceased was moving with on the fateful night. They are being held at the Special Investigations Unit headquarters in Kireka.
“We now have five suspects but efforts to hunt for the assailant are still underway,” the Entebbe Police District Commander Edgar Nyabongo disclosed.
Mr Coggon had earlier written a letter to Daily Monitor showing how his former wife, Fina Indolo, a Congolese national, wanted to take over his property.
In the letter Mr Coggon alleged that Ms Inodol was colliding with some security operatives after filing a petition in court to annul their marriage and was sending him death threats. He said he had reported the matter to Entebbe police.
Mr Coggon, a British ex-serviceman, was staying alone by the time he was shot
According to eye witnesses, he was shot at his gate, managing to drive to St. Mary’s Clinic in Entebbe town but the speed at which he was driving, while hooting, scared away nurses who closed the clinic thinking he was a criminal.
