Woman demands Shs6 million after staging own kidnap

Police in Kawempe have arrested a lady who faked her own kidnap and demanded a ransom from her mother.
Najjim Gonza, 27, who has been a food vendor at Mbiiko, in Jinja District, says she wanted to use the ransom money as capital to start a new business.

According to police, the suspect left Mbikko and went to live with her boyfriend, a one Festo Kigomba, an employee of Maganjo Grain Millers in Maganjo, near Kawempe.

Days later, she pretended to be a kidnapper and demanded money from her mother.
“Gonza used Kigomba’s phone to call her mother demanding a Shs6 million ransom,” Mr Luke Owoyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman said.

He said that her family reported to police and her phone details were traced to her boyfriend’s house.
The unsuspecting boyfriend led investigators to his home and the allegedly kidnapped girlfriend was found preparing supper.

Mr Oweyesigire said Gonza’ mother who fainted on hearing the bad news, is undergoing treatment at Jinja Hospital while the suspect awaits arraignment in court on charges of demanding money by menaces.

Meanwhile, police have rescued a baby who was reportedly kidnapped by her parent’s house maid.

The girl was reportedly kidnapped by Esther Mulekateete.

Mulekateete had worked for Mr Tazenya for only four days.
She was picked from Kachanga Island, Kalangala District, where she was found with the baby.

“Our team from Kira Division Police is on the way to get baby Chelsea and hand her over to the parent.

In a related development, Kireka Police Station have rescued Shakirah Nakabuye, a Primary Five pupil at Nakifuma Church of Uganda Primary School and a 2-year old Don Kitandwa.

The minors were returning from a clinic, when three men forced them into a black Toyota Raum and drove toward Namboole Stadium.

This prompted one of the kidnapped child to raise an alarm which made the abductors panic, stopped the car and pushed their victims out before speeding off.

Bystanders who witnessed the incident called police who took the children to Kireka Police Station.
The minors say, they are under the care of their sister, a one Teopista Nalutaya, a businesswoman in Bweyogerere.
