Amuru

A woman in Amuru District has been sent to jail for defiling a minor. The 30-year-old was convicted and given a four-year jail term for defiling a 17-year-old boy in Amuru Sub-county in December.

During a special court session for children under the Justice for Children Programme, presided over by the Chief Magistrate of Mbale, Ms Lillian Buchana, the woman pleaded guilty to the charge.

The mother of three told court that the victim deceived her that he was 25-years-old, before they slept together. “The boy followed me to my home and asked to have sex with me, I had already taken three bottles of beer,” she said.

The same court also acquitted another woman, a resident of Kulu Otit, Minakulu Sub-county in Oyam District, over defiling a minor on November. At least 200 defilement cases related to juveniles will be disposed-off in the Acholi sub region in the next month.

Coordinator of Justice for Children in Gulu Derrick Masinde said this will reduce case backlog and help children to access justice.
