Woman raped, killed in Masaka forest

Police in Masaka are investigating a case where a 45-year-old woman was reportedly gang raped and later killed in a forest on Sunday.
Grace Asiimwe, a resident of Kijabwemi, Kimaanya Kyabukauza Division, Masaka District, had gone to pick firewood in Kumbu central forest reserve when she was attacked.
Relatives waited for her return in vain. At about 11p.m, her family members mobilized and started searching the forest, only to stumble on her body.

Masaka District police commander, Mr Henry Kintu, said their investigations indicated that she had been raped before she was killed.
He said one person had been arrested help police with the investigations.
“We plan to patrol the forest day and night. It is becoming a threat to security yet people have been collecting fire wood from it," Mr Kintu said.
