Women murders: Kadaga tasks Tumukunde, Odongo to explain

PARLIAMENT: The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked the Minister of Security Henry Tumukunde and his internal affairs counterpart, Gen Jeje Odong to explain the rampant killings of women in Wakiso district.

“I want the ministers in charge to come up with statements, explaining the situation and solutions being undertaken,” she said.

This comes as a total of 19 women have been killed; 10 in Katabi-Entebbe and 9 from Nansana in a span of only two months.

The ministerial statements will be tabled on Tuesday next week as Parliament resumes business after a one-month recess.

The Speaker who has this afternoon addressed journalists at Parliament in Kampala, has also condemned the killings.

“It is very unfortunate that women are killed will such violence, this must be brought to an end,” said Kadaga

The Chairperson of Parliament’s committee on Human Rights, Jovah Kamateeka (NRM-Mitooma) also condemned the killings and asked the security forces to up their game.

Ms Kamateeka described the attacks on women as cowardice, challenging the perpetrators top instead divert their energy to government and not innocent people.
