Arrangements have been finalised to recognise rural women who have over the years contributed towards transformation of their communities.
The programme is a brain child of Isis- Women’s International Cross Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE), an international NGO that promotes the empowerment of women, and the flow of information and ideas leading to gender sensitivity and equal opportunities at all levels.
Ms Helen Kezie Nwoha, the Isis-WICCE programme manager, said the programme dubbed; “Women of Courage” is targeting to give awards to women working and living at community level who have made a huge impact that has changed the lives of ordinary people.

“Amidst all the challenges, there are women who have done incredible innovative work and these are the ones we want the public to nominate,” said Ms Nwoha.
She said women from various rural areas will be judged basing on their contributions in terms of governance and human rights, economic opportunities, health, peace and security.
Ms Nwoha explained: “Anybody from the public can identify a person and the work they do. Then fill out the form with their contacts and leading information to enable the organisers access their initiatives but our target is the rural woman who is not seen.”
She said the nominations have already started and will end on October 30. Nomination forms are picked and dropped at the American Embassy.
