Kampala- YMCA Comprehensive Institute will introduce degree programmes in business studies, the Institution’s chancellor, Dr James Nkata, announced last Friday.
The Bachelor courses, which start with the September intake, will be in fields of Business Administration, Information Technology, Secretarial and Administrative studies and Catering and Hospitality.
Dr Nkata made the declaration while presiding over the 17th graduation ceremony of the institute at Buwambo in Wakiso District where a total of 3,329 students graduated with certificates and diplomas.
“Today, we officially launch the long awaited degree programme. This means we have become the fourth institution in the category of ‘other degree awarding institutions’ in the country,” Dr Nkata said.
The other three institutes in the category are the; Uganda Management Institute, Makerere Business Institute and Team Business Institute.
Dr Nkata cautioned graduates not to rely on the documents they have obtained for employment but they should be very creative in order to beat unemployment.
“The qualifications you have obtained today may not be a guarantee for employment, but it is a prerequisite for your success. If you apply the skills you have acquired, you may not join the world of job seekers,” Mr Nkata said.
Dr Nkata, who was installed as the institution’s first ever chancellor in December last year, also promised to transform the institution into a fully fledged university within the next five years.
“Do not give up studies. What you have got today is the start of your academic struggle. I request you to enrol for degree courses,” Mr Mukasa urged.
Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, while speaking at the function, urged graduates to be innovative and pursue their careers with resilience.
