The President says youth should get focused and stop engaging themselves in useless advocacy

KAMPALA

President Museveni has said youth should get focused on wealth creation by engaging in productive economic sectors.
Mr Museveni said youth are like “misguided missiles” that have a tendency of being everywhere and end up being nowhere.
While officiating at the Africa Leadership Awards - Uganda Chapter on Wednesday in Kampala, the President said most of the youth are engaged in negative advocacy through civil society organisations, which he castigated for floating money into the economy that is not backed by production.
“These NGOs are floating money to various groups in the name of advocacy, you hear them advocating for things like democracy. Nobody should be talking about democracy in Uganda today because Uganda [under the NRM] is already democratic,” he said.
Mr Museveni urged the youth to get involved in positive advocacy which includes encouraging free trade and elimination of non-tariff barriers, increased production and value addition, among others.
He urged youth to form study groups with student peers to enable the scientific investigative approach to Africa’s solutions.
During the award ceremony, the President was handed the Pan-African Leadership Award for his contribution in the transformation of Uganda and restoring peace and stability in the country.

Rewarded

Good governance. According to Mr Davis Akampurira, the team leader of the Africa Leadership Awards-Uganda Chapter the awards were initiated in order to appreciate and recognise good leadership, which is a scarce commodity.
Lagging behind. Mr Akampurira says the absence of good leadership is one of the reasons why Africa has lagged behind in all aspects of development.
