Kampala. Former prime minister Amama Mbabazi has said he will actively participate in the transformation of the country, an indication that his plan to contest for the presidency in 2016 is gaining momentum.
“I am still strong both mentally and physically and I will give whatever effort is required to contribute to the transformation of our society to make Uganda a better place,” Mr Mbabazi said.
Mr Mbabazi, who has been out of the active political limelight since his sacking as prime minister last year, made the remarks while addressing students from different universities who graced the annual Lango cultural gala at Kyambogo University on Sunday evening.
He had just returned from the United Kingdom and the United States of America where he was for several days.
However, when asked by a reporter whether he will declare his presidential bid to challenge former boss President Museveni, Mr Mbabazi was evasive: “Didn’t I tell you that I would tell you?”

Tipped on leadership
The former NRM party secretary general appealed to the youth to take up leadership positions.
“This country is yours today and not tomorrow; today, be ready. To ready yourselves, work hard,” he said.
The students asked Mr Mbabazi to visit their region which he readily accepted. “Next year around the same month, which months is this?,” he asked as the students answered in unison, “March.”
“We will have finished the elections remember, I therefore, wish to accept in advance the invitation,” he said.
