Four Kaweesi murder suspects released on bail, three charged afresh

KAMPALA. Four Kaweesi murder suspects released on bail while three others have been charged afresh with being part of the Allied Defence Force (ADF) rebels.

The released suspects are; Sauda Ayub, Mugoya Asuman,Swaleh Damulira and Hibwagi Sinani.

The magistrate Noah Sajjabi at Nakawa Magistrate’s court ruled that even though the accused have clocked the mandatory remand period of 6 months without being committed to Highcourt for trial, he cannot just release them on bail without any terms given the gravity of their murder case.

He therefore ordered that each of the accused sign a non-cash bond of Shs50m and "their sureties must also execute a bond of Shs100m to ensure that the suspects return to court as and to when they are required."

However, shortly after their release, Mugoya and Hibagi’s happiness was cut short when the Director of Public Prosecutions Mike Chibita brought new charges against them of being part of a terrorist group against them.
They were also charged along with Abdul Kaala Tigasitwa.

Prosecution alleges that group and others still at large between 2006 and April 2017 at various places in Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo belonged or professed to belong to the ALLIED Democratic Forces , a terrorist organization listed in the second schedule to the Anti-Terrorism Act 2002.
The accused have been remanded to till December 7.
