The Uganda national examination board has registered a better performance rate in the 2017 primary leaving examination compared to 2016.

Releasing the examinations at the office of the president, the Uneb secretary general Daniel Odongo says that out of the 628,606 pupils who turned up for the exams,571,252 (90.9%) passed the exams while 57, 354 failed the exams.

Mr Odongo says a total of 57,198 pupils passed in first division, 293,977 passed in the second division, 128,573 passed in third division while 91,504 passed in fourth division. A total of 57,354 students got U hence failing completely.

He notes that a candidate is deemed to have passed if she or he obtained division grades of 1,2,3 and 4.

He says that this year's performance have improved compared to last year since 90.9% of pupils passed this year compared to 87% last year.
