Kampala. White House on Monday announced that US President Barack Obama is set to travel to his father’s native country, Kenya, in July.
The president of the powerful nation of the world will be in Nairobi to attend the 2015 Global Entrepreneurship Summit.
White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a statement that the purpose of Mr Obama’s trip was to “accelerate economic growth, strengthen democratic institutions, and improve security” in Africa.
The summit, an annual event since 2009, brings together entrepreneurs, investors, governments and other organisations to boost living standards around the world.

Fourth trip
The trip will be Obama’s fourth visit to sub-Saharan Africa during his presidency and his first to Kenya, where his father was born in Kogelo, Nyanza Province.
Ever since his first inauguration on January 20, 2009, Mr Obama has travelled to 50 different countries worldwide.
In Africa, he has only visited five countries, including Ghana, Egypt as well as Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. Mr Obama last visited Kenya in 1987 and as a Senator in 2006.
During his visit to Ghana in 2009 , he told the Ghanaian Parliament, “Africa doesn’t need strongmen, it needs strong institutions.”
