Odinga criticises Uhuru’s remarks on terror attacks

By Monitor Reporter

Nairobi- Kenya’s opposition Cord leader Raila Odinga has termed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s statement linking the country’s two deadly terror attacks to politics as unjustified, unfortunate and likely to compromise investigations.

Mr Odinga said President Kenyatta’s statement on the coast’s Mpeketoni massacre ignored other countries and experts’ position that they were carried out by the Somali group Al-Shabaab and that it did not claim responsibility for attacks that it had not carried out.

Speaking at a press conference in Nairobi, Mr Odinga called for the sacking of Cabinet and Principal Secretaries responsible for Defence and Internal Security, heads of intelligence, police and criminal investigations.

Mr Odinga said the officials had “exhibited incompetence and dereliction of their duty in the performance of their responsibility under the law”.

Mr Odinga called for a reconstitution of Kenya’s security organs to guarantee national security and ensure recruitment was done “to reflect the diversity of the Kenyan people in equitable proportions”.
