One person died and six others were wounded after a suicide attack at the entrance of the Somali Prime Minister’s office in Mogadishu on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, a person wearing a suicide belt approached the perimeter of the building housing PM Abdi Farah Shirdon’s office at Villa Somalia, the state house in Mogadishu. Nevertheless, the attack was largely unsuccessful, the assailant failing to enter the compound.

The blast killed one person and wounded six others.

It is the first time a suicide blast occurs in weeks after security was beefed up by join operations by peacekeepers serving with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali security forces.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
