Police in northwest Zimbabwe arrested a 24-year-old rural primary school teacher who is accused of repeatedly sodomizing at least ten boy students over the last year, state media reported Thursday.
The teacher of Longwe Primary School in Matabeleland North province was arrested after an 8-year-old boy reported to his parents that he was sexually abused. As the investigation continued, more victims surfaced and accused the teacher of indecent act, provincial police spokesman Siphiwe Makonese said.
According to the Herald newspaper, the teacher paid money to his victims to keep them silent. The 8-year-old, now being treated at a local hospital, had severe injuries on his bottom, it added.
According to Zimbabwean law, non-consensual same-sex behavior equates aggregated assault, and can lead to maximum life in prison if convicted.
