Global Competitive Index is an initiative that assesses competitiveness of nations based on 12 pillars among which is the strength of institutions and the level of infrastructure development.
According to National Development Plan report, in Uganda more than 95 per cent of cargo and passengers move by road and the national road network is estimated to be 78,100km of which only 4per cent is tarmacked. The rest is dust and mud. Yet an efficient transport system is a prerequisite for economic and social transformation.
