In Summary
In order to rid the country of terrorist activities conducted with the aid of mobile phones, UCC introduced SIM registration, an exercise which is also ongoing in neighbouring countries like Rwanda and Kenya.
I was surprised to learn that just a few days to the March 1 deadline given by Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), still over 40 per cent of Ugandans with mobile phones have not registered their Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) cards yet.
In order to rid the country of terrorist activities conducted with the aid of mobile phones, UCC introduced SIM registration, an exercise which is also ongoing in neighbouring countries like Rwanda and Kenya.
However, it is less than two months to go and still many Ugandans who depend on mobile telephones for daily communication, both personally and in business have not yet registered their SIMs.
Registration will only take a few minutes of your time, say, fifteen, but non-registration could cause you undue suffering as a result of deactivation.
Let us learn to do things on time without waiting for the last days to the deadline. Mobile telephone companies and their agents can also invest in digital cameras and photocopying machines, for clients who do not have photographs.
