Attorney General is govt’s legal adviser

On the front page of the Daily Monitor of February 18, you published a photograph of the President , Mr Ssekono , a former NSSF Board chairman and myself. You said that I, the Attorney General Kiddu Makubya and Peter Nyombi said NSSF had a weak case and demanded that the construction firm be paid.
A number of people who did not read the full story on page four which stated that I briefed the President quoting Attonery General Kiddu Makubuya’s legal counsel, asked me why I gave the President wrong advice which led to a lot of loss of public money.
I must make the following major clarification. According to Article 119 of the Constitution , the Attorney General is the legal Principal Adviser of the Government. In any case, I had no professional competence to give advice to the President on NSSF.
Prof. Apolo Nsibambi,
Former Prime Minister
