Bazzukulu need guidance and support, not rejection

It is the persistence of young people like Bobi Wine and our sheer determination to prove that we are worth listening to that will drive us to succeed in whatever campaigns or struggles we undertake

What you need to know:

  • Youth hold the important part of this country’s future hence they need guidance, mentorship and support from the elderly and the senior citizen groups concerned with different disciplines to ensure that they accomplish their mission.

While growing up, we learn to resent being told what to do. If it is not our parents, it is our teachers; if it is not our teachers, then it is that ever present “society” that reminded us we aren’t old enough to make decisions for ourselves. So we followed their rules until we were old enough to “know better”. This showed how important the elderly people were in society because they helped in grooming hardworking, disciplined and intelligent youth. This can also apply to politics.

Uganda’s young people are very capable, educated and opinionated individuals. They are continuously showing the government that they have the greatest stake in the leadership affairs of this country. Yet, they are committing the greatest sin, the sin of disrespecting the elders and ignoring their views. This leads me to the rise to fame of musician-turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine. Many things have been written about him especially after winning the Kyadondo East by-elections last year.

Bobi Wine’s dare shows that the youth are crying for a listening ear. It is the persistence of young people like Bobi Wine and our sheer determination to prove that we are worth listening to that will drive us to succeed in whatever campaigns or struggles we undertake. If any person believes that our voice isn’t worth hearing, then fine. We can prove them wrong.

Youth hold the important part of this country’s future hence they need guidance, mentorship and support from the elderly and the senior citizen groups concerned with different disciplines to ensure that they accomplish their mission.
