Besigye displayed political immaturity

As I watched NTV’s live broadcast of Uganda’s 51st Independence anniversary celebrations that was held in Rukungiri District Stadium, I was surprised to see former FDC president, Kizza Besigye accompanied by other prominent opposition politicians, including Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago at the function.
This reminded me of the political maturity that was expressed in Kenya when the opposition, led by Mr Raila Odinga joined the government in mourning the Westgate Shopping Mall terrorist attack last month.
Similar to this was the Presidents presence at the recent Kabaka’s coronation anniversary after a long while. The President sat through the entire function despite some maddening incidences of people booing him. However, he showed political maturity and did not walk away.
This is contrary to what Dr Besigye and his group did as they discourteously walked away, indicating how immature many of our politicians are. Perhaps they wanted to make a statement and draw attention to themselves but they still should have waited until the function ended.
