Convict all exam malpractisioners

Three people have been convicted and sentenced for exam malpractice during the recent national examinations.

Ann Akello, a student of Bukedea SS, was arrested on the first day of Senior Four exams on October 12 for impersonating the rightful candidate. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment or Shs1 million fine.

Two teachers, Rachael Namugaya and Dan Ngobi, were also tried in Jinja for swapping invigilation roles during UCE exams. They were convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment or a fine of Shs200, 000. More than 15 other people are being tried or investigated for related offences.

This is the first time in about more than 10 years the state has convicted examination offenders. UNEB congratulates the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Inspector General of Police for this achievement and urges them to encourage their officers to handle malpractice in exams with more seriousness so as to preserve the credibility of Uganda’s academic qualifications.

The public is requested to volunteer information on suspected exam malpractice and help in investigations.
