I have read with keen interest Freeman N Aber’s letter of the day in the Daily Monitor of January 15.

I am in total agreement with his historical account, I learnt of the existence of oil along Lake Mwitanzige as it was then known in Bunyoro Kitara from my elder brother Bonifansio B Mugasa who was employed by the British as a translator in the 1940s when Britain was looking for alternative source of oil for the war efforts in case Hitler and Mussolin took over the oil wells in the Middle East.

I should also point out that an act of Parliament to regulate exploration of oil was passed during the Obote II regime
