Environment protection is a key concern for the country

I thank the Daily Monitor for making environmental protection one of their priorities as evidenced by a March 21 story titled ‘Uganda to lose all forests by 2050’. Sincerely the issue of environmental protection has become a matter of life and death in Uganda.

According to National Development Plan page 204, subsistence agriculture remains the major sector of employment, increasing from 66 per cent in 2002 to 75 per cent in 2005/6, which means severe climate change can cause 75 per cent of Ugandans to lose their source of income, food, and it can cause severe inflation and foreign exchange problems for the nation. I also thank the Daily Monitor for suggesting that alternatives be sought for people who want to settle in forests.
