As unemployment continues to bite, many Ugandans have started their own income generating enterprises. Unfortunately, they face a number of challenges such as, constrained access to credit, risky to lend because they have no collateral security, inadequate start-up capital, among others.

The Ministry of Trade and Industry should plan how to sustain the SMEs through the district trade offices by focusing on financing, creating revolving funds, and streamlining access to financing.

Registration should be made easier, and less costly to enhance confidence. They should provide well researched market opportunities; encourage them to form viable groups, among others.
