Hats off to First Lady, partners for open heart surgery

I laud First Lady Janet Museveni for collaborating with various partners to enable open heart surgery to be conducted at the Uganda Heart Institute.
I am also excited for the support the Rotary International, Riley Children’s Hospital from the United States and Gift of Life International has given to the Uganda Heart Institute in Mulago hospital.
Uganda Heart Institute in Mulago has been receiving 600 heart patients every year, of which many are referred to India and the few operations which are carried out in Uganda have been expensive, always ranging from Shs6m to Shs10m.
This has left some patients not being operated on because they do not have enough money for the operation hence losing their lives.
As a result of this partnership, more Ugandan doctors are to be trained by the experts thus saving Ugandans from travelling to India and other countries to look for the same services hence saving on costs.
Besides saving on expenses, more lives will be saved from the deadly heart diseases in Uganda.
