It’s undemocratic to push citizens off social media using tax

Uganda has a big population using Facebook. According to the Internet world statistics, Uganda had 2.6 million Facebook subscribers as of December 2017.
As such, Parliament should amend the law and remove taxes onto a social media site called Facebook Zero. Facebook Zero is an initiative undertaken by Facebook in conjunction with telecoms across the world whereby they waive data charges required to access Facebook on phones. It is simply a text-only version of its mobile website that does not load pictures. This means that Facebook sage is not only a preserve of the rich, who can pay social media tax and buy bundles.

Leaders of democracies all across the world are struggling to include more people to the Internet statistics, but Uganda has successfully fought that. It is undemocratic to push citizens off social media using tax. Tax makes internet bundles expensive to buy.
As a democracy, we should focus on timely universal inexpensive accurate information access. Internet is a privilege for the selected few, who can afford devices and data. There is a lot of information sharing through social media.
