Land use should be better planned

The rate at which housing estates are mushrooming all over the country should be of great concern to the authorities. Uganda is experiencing rapid population growth which automatically calls for more food production as well as housing. This calls for an elaborate planning to have a win-win situation between agriculture and housing.
What other countries do is to expand housing vertically and agriculture horizontally and more intensively. In Uganda, you see housing expanding horizontally, diminishing agricultural land!
One wonders what will happen when all the land is covered with housing estates!
My advice is the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban planning should have a policy in place providing guidance, rules and regulations and a legal framework for housing to take care of the increasing population. They should recommend a minimum number of housing units per acre so that each land unit can accommodate so many people.
