Let’s wipe out FGM
Posted Thursday, February 7 2013 at 02:00
In Summary
Take for example the culture of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) that is common in some parts of this country.
Most Ugandans are passionate about their cultural values and this in one way or the other shapes their attitudes in life and general behaviour. We so cherish our good cultural values but it is my firm belief that not all cultural practices are good.
Take for example the culture of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) that is common in some parts of this country. Young girls face unsafe knives that destroy them physically and emotionally. For some it has led to long-term injury and even death.
This culture is purportedly for initiating these girls into adulthood. This country should not be a hub of cultures that promote gender-based violence. This is cruelty hiding under the façade of culture. Let’s wipe out FGM from this country.
