MPs got it wrong on Acholi chiefs houses

In Summary
For all the work that OPM has done in northern Uganda, it would be diversionary for leaders to habitually rubbish even physical out-puts like the 54 houses OPM built for chiefs, school and office blocks under PRDP.
In the article, “MPs discover more ghosts, substandard work at OPM”, Daily Monitor, March 5, some MPs on field inspection in northern Uganda are quoted to have questioned the work done by OPM in the region such as the quality of the houses built for Acholi chiefs. In the story, one MP said: “We have found byoya bya nswa (phantom projects). There is nothing on the ground!”
For all the work that OPM has done in northern Uganda, it would be diversionary for leaders to habitually rubbish even physical out-puts like the 54 houses OPM built for chiefs, school and office blocks under PRDP. In fact, the paramount chief (Ker Kwaro), recently issued a statement on the matter. Below is an excerpt:
“Ker Kwaro would like to inform the public that the chiefs houses were well constructed and handed over to the chiefs in good condition... The five houses whose sites had land conflicts have also been completed and are yet to be handed over. It is, therefore, wrong to allege that the government built sub-standard palaces, which are unfit for habitation.
Any defects that were noticed at the time of completion of the project were duly rectified by OPM.”
