Make public health care a priority

I am disheartened that after 51 years of Independence, about 16 mothers still die daily in labour wards due to lack of proper care, children are dying due to malnutrition and many others failing to get the basic healthcare because the heath centres either lack the medicines or doctors or both. These same people are taxpayers who also contribute to this country and deserve better!
One of the problems arises from the poor pay given to the medical personnel who resort to private practice and abandon government health centers, a case in point being Hoima hospital.
Why would leaders care since they and their families go to private clinics, probably explaining their laxity.
Health should be given priority just as security, roads and energy are because of what importance are roads and security without people?
The government should devise the best health care system for all Ugandans and also revamp the dilapidated hospitals and pay the health workers better. Everyone deserves a portion of the national cake.
