Museum should have Kiprotich’s photos
Posted Thursday, March 21 2013 at 02:00
My visit to the National Museum in Kamwokya was concluded with disappointment. As my daughter and I toured the sports section that features Olympic triumphs of this country among other important sports related events, we discovered that our most recent accolade did not feature.
There is still no photograph of that glorious moment when Stephen Kiprotich won the Marathon in London or when he got his gold medal. Shame on the administrators of the museum for ignoring such an important part of Uganda’s history, especially because it coincided with the golden Jubilee.
This makes me question how updated the information at this centre that is meant to be a custodian of our history is.
Imagine my embarrassment as a parent as I laboured to explain to the eight-year-old why John Akii-Bua’s photo stands proud and not a sign of Kiprotich adorns this section.
Flora Aduk,
