OWC intervention will help to boost agriculture

Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) is an intervention that President Museveni launched in July 2013. He instituted the body to create a system that facilitates effective national socio-economic transformation with a focus on raising household incomes, for poverty eradication and sustainable wealth creation.
It was formed with a vision of achieving social-economic transformation with the aim to guarantee internal security, law and order, peace, stability of the country and protection and preservation of citizenship. A number of achievements have been registered so far. They have generated constructive debates in the agricultural sector. These discussions have resulted in generating new ideas whose implementation is expected in the near future. OWC have already identified gaps in the sector, which when effectively filled, will help to provide targeted interventions in the agriculture sector.
They have also connected the government to the ordinary people and millions of Ugandans are eager to participate in the programme, especially by receiving inputs and value addition equipment.
Lastly, they have mobilised other stakeholders in the agricultural sector - agriculture colleges, agricultural and environmental sciences, Makerere University, Grain Council and banks, among others. However, challenges have also been registered by OWC, including lack of coordination by related agencies, low level of financing, etc.
