Pioneer Easy buses should resume work
I agree with President Museveni’s proposal to block the auction of Pioneer Easy buses which was supposed to take place on May 17.
Since the clamping of down the buses, months ago, Kampala’s public transport users have been at the mercy of taxi operators who have hiked the fares. In as much as the buses were clamped down due to non-payment of taxes, it must be remembered that they provided a critical public service, at subsidised fares.
They were clean and comfortable with plastic seats, a television screen and uniformed staff. Presently, Uganda’s public transport system charges one of the highest transport fares in the world.
This city deserves to be decongested with an efficient and modern transportation system complete with travel cards. In public interest, it would be nice to see the buses back on the road as soon as possible.
