Rakai deaths: What has the government done about it

In Summary
Back to Uganda, on Monday January 14, nine people from the same family were murdered in cold blood, with the assailants slitting their throats with sharp machetes.
In the movie, ‘Saving private Ryan,’ a mother of four children was about to receive a telegram informing her of the death of three of her sons at war, while defending the United States.
When the news got to Gen. George Marshall, he gave an order for the last of the four brothers to be withdrawn from the front line and brought back to his mother alive. And indeed, the young man is found and brought back home.
The movie never provides an explanation why the general did this. But I imagine he had empathy on this mother who was about to lose all her sons, who were defending their country.
Back to Uganda, on Monday January 14, nine people from the same family were murdered in cold blood, with the assailants slitting their throats with sharp machetes.
This unfortunate incident could have befallen any family. And yet what has our government done? What have our leaders done or said about the incident?
At the time, majority of our MPs who belong to the ruling NRM, were in Kyankwanzi attending their caucus retreat. This was a very good opportunity for them to issue a statement condemning the act.
But we never heard them say anything about it. We just kept receiving news about how they had debated in vain about restoration of the presidential term limits, among others.
If the killing of nine people in cold blood could not bother them, I wonder what will ever bother them.
Recently, the media also reported how President Barack Obama had signed a law to hunt down Lord’s Resistance Army leader Joseph Kony.
Is Kony an American or is he living in America? What have the African leaders, who head the countries where this man lives, done?
This man massacred our people like pigs but look, where are we sending our troops? Somalia. Have our leaders become this callous?
I guess the bereaved family in Rakai will have to wait for one of the western countries to condemn the incident and promise to hunt down the assailants.
May the souls of the deceased rest in eternal peace.
