Security personnel should have first verified survivors’ identities

It was reported in the media that the Westgate mall attackers were arrested and some were killed during rescue efforts by Kenyan security forces, but up to now, we have not heard any information regarding the suspects.
Could some of these terrorists have escaped unnoticed by the security forces? In my view, these attackers could have abandoned their weapons and changed their clothes and disguised themselves as victims who were running from gun fire.
There were also contradicting reports on the sex of the attackers. Some said there were women and others said they were all men but some of them were dressed as women. They were seen entering the mall but no one saw them come out.
The issue of terrorists holding hostages inside the mall could have been an impression created by the terrorists to divert security’s attention from their counterparts who were escaping.
Kenyan security forces should have held everyone running out of the mall in one place and verified their identity before setting them free.
Let’s not take chances which could let these criminals escape
